I was the kid who constantly asked “why” about anything and everything. Much to my parents’ dismay, I kept asking “why” long past the age that most kids stopped. My mom grew so weary of it she eventually bought me a book called, Why do Clocks Run Clockwise?¹ And in the inscription she wrote, “Kevin, now you can have all the answers.”

She probably didn’t anticipate that the book would just make me want more answers. That book taught me that there was more to know. And I now had a way to find more answers.

That curiosity has never left me. I’m constantly searching for answers for the best way to do things. Whether it’s the best way to teach adults or the best way to whiten sheets (it’s vinegar), I know there are answers out there and I’m determined to find them.

In all my years of searching for answers, I’ve come across a lot of information that just doesn’t make sense but should make sense. Working through muddy information to make it make sense is what drives me to create better learning. My base assumption is that if it doesn’t make sense to me, it’s not going to make sense to a lot of other people. My goal is to make things make sense. Because what’s the point of training and education if it means a lot of people aren’t going to get it?
